Discount Grocery Stores

For centuries supermarket chains has been the main type of stores available for people to shop at. Supermarket chains can be expensive and inconvenient for everyone. However, discount retailers like dollar stores, warehouse clubs, and supercenters. Customers can shop at lower costs and ability to buy products in bulk making it cheaper. These stores can be cheaper in some items due to their own store brands they sell. Discount stores can be smaller with less items but they have a competitive edge and consumer appeal.
Supermarket chains though are continuing to try to compete with these discount retailers. They offer discounts and promotions like how Giant Eagle offers weekly sales and coupons online. They also have coffee shops, movie rentals, and bars available to attract customers. Supermarket chains are implementing self-checkout aisles to save money because they can reduce the number of cashiers.
The new type of grocery shopping is online grocery. With society becoming a more technological dependent society, customers will start to use online ordering more. I believe this is not beneficial for customers. It is estimated to reach $100 billion by 2025. AmazonFresh is a new digital grocery store commonly used as well as customers able to order and pay for their items online. Some major chain grocery stores are doing mobile apps and online ordering which will be ready for pick up at the store and you don’t have to shop for it.
Online shopping has its positive and negative parts to it. It is negative because they will not have the opportunity to shop around and explore new items. If they shop online, they may only shop for the items they know and want to order.  However, it is beneficial for people who do not have time for shopping. Instead of eating out because they don’t have time to shop, they will now have some more time because they just have to pick it up after work. With the growth of discount grocery stores, nutritious foods can be more affordable for people. Increasing the health of customers. There is constantly new concepts and styles of shopping that will have to be monitored.
