Everything Was Red (Taylor’s Version)

Everything Was Red (Taylor’s Version)

If you’re anything like me, you’ve been counting down the days to the Red re-release. Lucky for us, the big day is almost here. In less than 48 hours we’ll have Taylor’s Version of all the original songs as well as some new ones -- make some noise for “All Too Well (10 Minute Version).”

So, in preparation for the heartbreak album of 2012 and 2021, I’ve compiled a list of punny comfort foods for when you’re “happy, free, confused, and lonely at the same time.” Comfort food often gets a stigma (especially in diet culture spaces) for being unhealthy. While consistently relying on food to process emotions might not be the healthiest, this is entirely different from enjoying comfort food for what it is when you need it - comfort. So, just like the number of minutes in the new version of “All Too Well,” here are 10 tips and recipes for when you need to show yourself a little extra love.

  1. State of Grace Soup

This can literally be any type of soup! If you don’t have a lot of energy to make soup, you can just get a can from the store or a local restaurant. If you are up for making some soup, go for what feels comforting to you! Personally, I love a good cheesy potato soup. I also know plenty of people who find great comfort in grilled cheese and tomato soup.

  1. Red Ramblings

Sometimes you just have to get all your feelings out. This can be to a friend, a journal, or even a therapist if you feel you need the extra help. Sometimes just talking things out can help clear your head so well.

  1. All too Well Waffles

Waffles however you like! From frozen toasted to box mix to homemade and even to going out for brunch… waffles do the heart some good. Add fruit on top for some added nourishment.

  1. 22 Joyful Movements

Going to the gym when you’re feeling low can be really difficult. Nevertheless, physical activity can help our mood and our energy levels. It can help us through hard times. That’s where joyful movement can come into play! Joyful movement is quite literally any type of movement that brings you joy. Personally, this includes dancing to music I like, hula hooping, light yoga flows, walking around, going on hikes, kayaking, biking, and even occasional weightlifting as I find it empowering. Some other ideas could be going for a swim, jumping on a trampoline, climbing, canoeing, paddle boarding, kickboxing, Pilates, taking workout classes with a friend, running, walking your dog, or playing a sport with a friend - such as soccer, tennis, volleyball, and even flag football. At the end of the day, a little movement is better than no movement. And a dance party to the bop that is “22 (Taylor’s Version)” is even better. Ultimately, joyful movement is often the easiest form of movement which is why I highly recommend it.

  1. I Almost Do Donuts

Sometimes a good donut is the sweet treat we need to add some extra joy to our day! I personally love buying a dozen donuts and bringing them to friends or colleagues to form some comradery. Buy a box of donuts and bring them to your friends as a thank you for their support.

  1. Stay Stay Stay Support System

Speaking of support, going to your support system is one of the best things you can do! No matter what kind of heartbreak you’re going through, having a strong support system around you is always a good way to go. Even if you’re not ready to talk about what you’re going through, just being around people to watch a movie or share a meal is good for the soul.

  1. The Last Time Lasagna

For me, lasagna is a very homey meal. Lucky for you, it’s rather simple to make and will last you for many meals to come! I recommend seeking out a family recipe if you can and giving it a try! Something about cooking can be very therapeutic in and of itself. It allows you to forget about the world for a little bit and just create something that you can later enjoy.

  1. The Moment I Knew Movie Night

Movie nights during seasons of hardship can really heal the heart. If you’ve been keeping a lot in and are in need of a good cry, I recommend going for a more emotional movie. On the other hand, if you’ve been crying your eyes out and just want a distraction, I recommend watching something that may bring you joy!

  1. Come Back...Be Here Casserole

Who doesn’t love a casserole? In all my life I’ve only met one person who doesn’t love casseroles. So as long as you’re not them, then a good casserole may bring you some comfort. I love corn casserole but just choose your favorite and give it a go!

  1. Girl at Home Girls Night

A “girls night” at its core is a night for self care, talking, and just having some fun. It’s the perfect recipe for getting through some heartbreak. Of course, this doesn’t have to be exclusive to girls/women, I think it would greatly benefit non-binary folks and boys/men to have nights like this too. At the end of the day, this final tip is about taking care of yourself and your support system.

I hope that anyone reading this can take something away - whether it be something for yourself or for a friend! From Taylor herself, “Can’t wait to celebrate the 13th with you and our new/old autumn heartbreak album.”

  1. This post was SO creative, cute, and amazing! I love Taylor Swift's 'Red', so this was a lot of fun to read. This is a perfect idea for reaching younger audiences with positive nutrition-related messages. I also liked how you approached giving health education in a compassionate light, encouraging readers to do what felt best for them and to not be "perfect" with eating or working out. Suggesting adding fruit to the "all too well" waffles was a great addition, and the lasagna section was really nice. Great post! I loved it! -RP
