Flavorful Flowers and Forgeables

Spring time brings fresh vegetation that includes fruits, vegetables, fungi, and flowers! Not all things that grow are edible. Some flowers and fungus are toxic and can be dangerous to eat! Some flowers that are okay to eat are:

  • Begonia
  • Marigolds
  • Carnations
  • Chrysanthemums
  • Clover
  • Cornflower
  • Dames Rocket
  • Dandelions
  • Day Lilies
  • Daisy
  • Hibiscus
  • Honey Suckle
  • Lilac
  • Pansy
  • Roses
  • Sunflower
  • Tulip Pedals
  • Yucca Pedals

There are some do's and dont's of finding flowers.
  • Only eat flowers when you are sure they're edible.
  • Stay away from pesticides.
  • Wash everything before you eat.
  • Introduce small amounts into your diet.
  • Only eat organic flowers.
Mushrooms can be found and eaten too! Some mushrooms that are edible are:
  • Button mushroom
  • Cauliflower mushroom
  • Chanterelle mushroom
  • Chicken of the woods
  • Cremini mushroom
  • Enoki mushroom
Things you want to consider with mushrooms:
  • Always wash off anything you find
  • Make sure they are edible before you eat
  • Stay away from pesticides
  • Make sure you are in an authorized area allowing for mushroom foraging.
Just remember to be careful and cautious when dealing with forgeables and what you consume!

  1. Love this topic! Haven't given it much thought before but it's definitely an interesting one. Had a family friend when I was growing up who always put flowers on her salads.
