Social Media Use by Food & Health Organizations

This article addressed the growing use of social media by organizations that aim to education the general population on food and health.  The researchers stated that while there are many organizations that use social media, they are still not interacting with the public as much as they could.   The most common forums are Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.  The study found that a food/health organizations page was most often used to air complaints or ask questions, but very little was being done to provide information or news about the organization.  Social media is becoming increasingly important when operating any type of organization.  Consumers like being interactive, however it’s important to keep in mind the consumer should not be doing all the interacting.  These organizations need to shift their focus to providing information and education through social media.
