Different Reasons for Becoming a Vegetarian

This article was in the Daily News posts sent from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and published in Appetite.I thought it was interesting that different cultures have different reasons for becoming vegetarians. Westerners are more apt to do so for sustainability or animal cruelty reasons and Easterners are more likely to do so for reasons of  body purity. I guess this shows that food preferences are rooted in the cultures we live in. It’s important for us as dietitians to understand the reasoning behind our client’s food choices when helping them select the right eating pattern for them.The article can be found at
