Switch to EMR

I wanted to share some things I have learned from experiencing the switch over to the EMR at Robinson. I am not sure that this information will apply to all facilities but I thought it may be helpful in case it comes up with our summer clinical rotations.

Here are some abbreviations & acronyms that they told us we will see with computer charting.

·         EMR- Electronic Medical Record

·         EHR- Electronic Health Record

·         SCM- Sunrise Clinical Manager (Allscripts)

·         CPM- Clinical Practice Model

·         KBC- Knowledge Based Charting

·         A&I- Assessment and Intervention Flowsheet

·         CPG- Clinical Practice Guideline

·         EBP-Evidence Based Practice

·         POC-Plan of Care

·         CPOE- Computerized Physician Order Entry

Here are some advantages of EMR they informed us of:

·         Opportunity to improve quality of care and patient safety.

·         Reduce discrepancies in patient care with Evidence Based Practice.

·         Legibility and ease of reading other’s documentation enhance continuity of care.

·         Increased accessibility of chart and immediate access to key information.

·         Interdisciplinary documentation. Health care team collaborating together to coordinate the patient’s care and reduce duplication.
