Getting the Job and Keeping it: Making a Difference in Your Organization
This article provides tips for
dietitians throughout their career, how to get into a job, how to keep it, and
improve it. Before RDs go to interview, especially if they were newly graduate,
they need to do a research and know well the hiring organization. During the
interview CNMs usually look for: communication skills, interpersonal skills,
volunteer experience and projects during the internship, and passion for the
field. If the RDs want to keep their job and have promotions in the constantly
changing health industry, they need to improve their skills and continue their
education by joining nutrition-related groups, attending conferences, reading
in writing in journals.
When RDs want to apply for CNM
position, it is helpful to communicate with other CNMs in the field and ask them
about their experience as managers. CNM will focus on formulating strategies,
meeting goals, and improving the quality. Also, CNM needs to be flexible, be
able to look at problems from many angels, and to be ready to deal with
emergencies. When applying for a CNM position under the same specialty, this
will have great impact in communication with the staff and solve the problems. “Employees respect managers, and are
frequently more productive working for those, who can speak their language and
have at least some experience in their area of expertise”. Three main
criteria suggested by the author when applying for CNM position are: passion, enthusiasm, and ability to
motivate others.
