Getting the Job and Keeping it: Making a Difference in Your Organization



This article provides tips for dietitians throughout their career, how to get into a job, how to keep it, and improve it. Before RDs go to interview, especially if they were newly graduate, they need to do a research and know well the hiring organization. During the interview CNMs usually look for: communication skills, interpersonal skills, volunteer experience and projects during the internship, and passion for the field. If the RDs want to keep their job and have promotions in the constantly changing health industry, they need to improve their skills and continue their education by joining nutrition-related groups, attending conferences, reading in writing in journals.   

When RDs want to apply for CNM position, it is helpful to communicate with other CNMs in the field and ask them about their experience as managers. CNM will focus on formulating strategies, meeting goals, and improving the quality. Also, CNM needs to be flexible, be able to look at problems from many angels, and to be ready to deal with emergencies. When applying for a CNM position under the same specialty, this will have great impact in communication with the staff and solve the problems. Employees respect managers, and are frequently more productive working for those, who can speak their language and have at least some experience in their area of expertise”. Three main criteria suggested by the author when applying for CNM position  are: passion, enthusiasm, and ability to motivate others.
