Inspiring a Wave of Healthy Eating
Davita Kidney & Dialysis Centers are expanding
beyond kidney treatment with a new program called “A Wave of Healthy Choices”. Davita
wanted to really be able to utilize their RD’s as much as possible, and were
able to do so in creating this new program. The goal of the program is to
educate people on healthy foods and how to care for healthy kidneys in an effort
to prevent new kidney failure cases. Dietitians provide daily tips to their
coworkers about healthy nutrition choices. The dietitians are asked to do this
in fun and creative ways that really let the employees become immersed in
healthful life choices. Dietitians will also visit nearby businesses and educate
them on kidney and general nutrition health as well. They are hoping that the
people the dietitians educate will spread the world to people they know or see
in their day to day lives, thus expanding the knowledge base as much as
possible.
In addition, Davita brings community into the picture
with multiple community activities to promote health and healthy eating. Education
will be available to adults, children, teenagers, and the elderly to focus on
individual age based need. They will also have healthy eating classes, eating
on a budget lessons, fear factor food training to encourage people to try new
and healthy foods, and MyPlate education.
This article shows that Davita is really pushing
themselves to expand beyond just dialysis. They are trying to make a difference
before the problems begin. Dietitians can learn from Davita how to really reach
a lot of people without having to spend a lot of money and hire new people.
