How to Make Meal Prep a Little Easier
Let's roll through this familiar situation, shall we? You’re a busy individual (a dietetic intern, for example), and you’re looking to streamline your life by preparing things ahead of time such as outfits, your bookbag, your work portfolio. and oh, I don’t know… a healthy meal? So, you look up all the best meal prep ideas and find a few to start off with, you have your finest Tupperware, you’re pumped, right?
Meanwhile, you return home from the grocery store or just picked up your grocery delivery with all the prep fix-in’s and then what?
There goes time, and meal prep gets swept away with it. *Empathetic frustrated sigh*
But is it just time, or are you seeing the mountain of tasks to complete? It’s not out of the question because you might need to:
· cook the protein, veggie, etc.
· season said protein, veggie, etc.
· Do etc. to etc. and more
…Are you overwhelmed yet?
Good news: You don’t have to be! *Insert confetti here*
Without further ado, I shall reveal five simple items you can purchase to simplify your meal-prep experience from my own meal-prep experience:
1. Rotisserie chicken: I think this is the most popular protein to meal prep with because there are so many things you can do with chicken along with it being a lean protein.
2. Premade guac, hummus, etc.: Yes, I too like to make these from scratch when I can. Despite anyone’s best efforts though, these take up a lot of valuable time when you’re fully focused on getting stuff done.
3. Slaw, salad, or any kits: Yes, it is okay to make something from a kit. It’s literally the same things you would have bought and pre-portioned and cooked all that jazz yourself. The name of the game in this blog is time, remember?
4. Frozen fruit and veggie smoothie kits: There’s all kinds of different smoothie packs that give you a great way to include more fruits and veggies in your diet. Bonus, it’s not the same old cut up fruit and veggies option. Variety is the spice of life, yes?
5. Sauce packages: These really take out the guess work of trying to make the perfect portions of ketchup, mustard, etc. Plus, not everyone has that one tiny Tupperware for sauce or wants to buy one. You could also just put the sauce in a plastic baggie, but then you risk your hands get slightly messy when it’s time to eat; unless you’re a fan of that, no judgement here.
I hope you find these useful in your next meal prep endeavors. Do you know of different ways to make meal prep a little easier? Let me know in the comments!
