Leadership Blind Spot

As we all learned from the SWOT analysis, it is not only important to know your strengths and opportunities but also your weaknesses and threats. An article titled Beware Your Leadership Blind Spots found here points out the importance of knowing your leadership blind spot.

The list possible areas for blind spots include communicating priorities clearly, understanding of decision roles and processes, and the degree of implementing change.

Ways to improve your "eyesight" include:

  • Getting feedback from multiple avenues- Insight from every angle allow for review of every aspect of the company.
  • Make sure priorities are aligned- They point out that it is important to align the priorities of everyone in the company and not just those at the top. 
  • Identify disconnects- It is important to include all members when identifying disconnects. For larger operations, this can be done by mapping to be able to better organize the process. It is also important once the disconnects are discovered to communicate back the findings everyone as to eliminate confusion.
