Assess Your Cultural Competence
I checked out the link provided from the Health Disparities Tip Sheet in my last blog:
https://www4.georgetown.edu/uis/keybridge/keyform/form.cfm?formID=277
This website provides background information on the Cultural Competence Health Practitioner Assessment (CCHPA). CCHPA was developed to help health care practitioners deliver patient quality care in those underserved communities and to also help in the elimination of health disparities. It has six subscales which are values and belief systems; cultural aspects of epidemiology; clinical decision-making; life cycle events; cultural communication; and empowerment/health management.
Once you complete the assessment, you receive a response that identifies you at an awareness, knowledge, or skill level in each of the six subscales. Also, the site provides you with a list of suggested resources which is dependent on your response patterns.
With so much diversity in our communities, I think is definitely something that any community practitioner can use! I really like how this is a tool to help promote elimination of the problematic health disparities our country faces. In my opinion, it is important to be able to work in a community setting and recognize the diversity from all cultures. There are many resources provided on this website, I think it is something worth checking out!
